Petition for crossing on Waterloo Road

The junction of Waterloo Road and Union Road

Romford Labour are petitioning Havering Council to install a crossing at the Waterloo Road and Union Road junction following concern from residents about people jumping over the barrier on the busy road.

Pedestrians travelling between the flats on Union Road (the old Oldchurch Hospital site) and Romford Town centre and the Brewery will often cross Waterloo Road at the Union Road junction to cut their journey time, but this is a danger for pedestrians and motorists.

Can you help? Will you sign and share our petition to Havering Council?

It’s unbelievable that thousands of homes were built yet this wasn’t considered. The subway is inadequate due to security reasons.

Please build a crossing next to the train bridge. It will be cheaper this way; or a zebra crossing. Act now before people get hurt jumping over this barrier.

My daughter lives off Union Road with her partner and their children, a crossing would make it so much easier and safer.

I believe this access should have been built long ago. This area hosts nowadays 3-4 thousand people, which is very different from what it was when the underground crossing was built. Hundreds of people jump over the barrier every day and it is unsafe for everyone

This crossing is absolutely needed, especially once the new Primary School opens. The subway is dangerous (I know several people who have been mugged there) and it can be unsuable due to flooding.

Crossing is essential, its very dangerous without. Especially with the school being built on site

I am fully in agreement and there was one planned years ago and agreed in 2016.

In April 2017 I was told by the council the following: "The scheme is agreed for implementation and TfL is fully on board to the extent that Havering Council have already paid for the traffic signals themselves.

The delay is linked to land acquisition whereby the Council have agreed terms for the western side of the street and are working on an acquisition for the eastern side of the street which is linked to the Bridge Close redevelopment project.

As soon as the Council are able to proceed they will work to get the scheme completed as soon as possible.

I have seen school children jumping over the fence. With the imminent opening of the new school on union road will increase the risk of accident.
